Affenpinscher Mixes

The Affenpinscher, originally from Germany was bred to hunt vermins like rats and other rodents from the kitchen, granary, and other areas. They make great house pets with a balanced wiry-haired terrier-like appearance. As a toy dog, they’re very intelligent and have a calm personality.

Such great characteristics encouraged breeders to invest in crossbreeding with other dog breeds such as the Chihuahua, Bichon Frise, Pug, Poodle, Yorkie, Border Terrier, among others. Below are over ten Affenpinscher mixes clearly describing each of its characteristics and personality traits.

Affenpinscher Chihuahua Mix

First up is the Affenhuahua or what others refer to as Affenchi. This is a toy dog crossbreed between the Affenpinscher and Chihuahua. They are very friendly, gentle, and full of high energy.  With a long life expectancy of 15 years, this family pet has a height of about six to 11 inches and a weight of one to six pounds.

The Affenhuahua is characterized by its very small body, round head, a black nose with a short muzzle, and a long tail. Variable characteristics include a short and curly coat that’s low-shedding or a long coat that’s not, upright/ pricked ears or floppy ears, plus different coat colors such as solid black, fawn, or cream, and spotted colors of white and grey.

Even as a family pet, they are better off handled by adults who would be more gentle.

Affenpinscher Shih Tzu Mix

Weighing between eight to 14 pounds and a standard height of ten inches, the Affen Tzu is a lovely crossbreed between the Affenpinscher and the Shih Tzu.

The spunky dog is small in size but has a lot to offer in terms of its personality. The crossbreed is characterized by its well balanced small body, deep and broad chest, round head, short and dark muzzles, a broad lower jaw, dark lips, and black rounded eyes.

Their ears may be flopped as the Shih Tzu or upright like that of the Affenpinscher. They have soft and silky fur that can either be long or medium-sized. Coat colors range from black, blue, brindle, gold, white, beige, silver, red, or a combination.

This hybrid dog has a long lifespan of 11 to 15 years so you can enjoy the best of their affectionate personality. Unfortunately, they are territorial and can be a bit impatient. Otherwise, they are great family pets.

Affenpinscher Poodle Mix

Next up is the Affendoodle or AffenPoo.  Yet another designer dog breed between the Affenpinscher and the Poodle. This mixture originating from the USA is one of the most prevalent mixes since you can choose between either of the three poodle sizes  Toy, Miniature, or Standard. They have an average height of ten to 25 inches and a weight of eight to 25 pounds. Bigger than the former mix!

Affenpoos are a delight to have as a family pet as they are easy to train and very intelligent. With a charming personality, always eager to please, it plays the perfect role of a companion dog, but they can also be a guard dog.

The Affenpoo has multiple characteristics depending on your choice of the poodle, however common traits include a short muzzle, a black nose, large and round dark-colored eyes, triangular flopped ears, and dense hair that may be soft or coarse and medium length on average. As for the coat color, they come in a range of colors including shades of brown, black, chocolate, tans, and greys.

Affenpinscher Yorkie Mix

The Affenshire is a crossbreed between the Affenpinscher and the Yorkshire Terrier. A hypoallergenic designer dog with a perky appearance, outstanding personality, and very small size. They weigh between nine to eleven pounds and have a height of eight to eleven inches. Much like the affenchi, they too aren’t good for children as they’re wee and could easily get injured.

Besides its petit look, this canine can have a smooth/ shaggy coat for the Affenpinscher or a long and silky coat from the Yorkie. There’s also variance between pointed or dropped ears. Otherwise, the dog has dark-colored eyes and nose, a mustached face, and a mixed coat color. Affenshires are naturally curious dogs and therefore tend to be stubborn and eager to learn or do.

Affenpinscher Pug Mix

The Affenpug as you would guess is a crossbreed between the German Affenpinscher and the Chinese Pug. A designer dog takes the best from both worlds to create a short and small-sized dog weighing seven to 18 pounds and a height of nine to 12 inches.

The Affenpug has a variance of characteristics including a small and flattened head, brown eyes, black nose, upright ears, medium-sized curly tail, and a rough medium length wiry coat. Coat colors can be Sable, fawn, or red.

Both dogs have a fun-loving and devoted character which could only mean the same for the Affenpug. Curious to learn, eager to please, playful, high-spirited, comedic, and often has nervous dispositions.

Unfortunately, they too can be territorial with food and toys. Aggressive to children and other dogs,  making them a more suitable pet choice for a family with older children.

Affenpinscher Bichon Frise Mix

The Affenchon is an adorable mix between the Affenpinscher and the Bichon Frise. The hybrid dog has a height of nine to 11 inches and a weight of seven to twelve pounds.

Very small in size, the mix has low shedding characteristics but its coat does need regular clipping and trimming. Very friendly around other pets, they develop a need to socialize very early in its life and also tend to bark often.

The Affenchon has characteristics from both breeds which is why there will be great differences from its coat, white from the Bichon, and dark from the Pinscher.

Standard traits could be a shaggy and wiry coat, feisty eyes, and dropped ears. The hybrid is very caring but suspicious around strangers. A great family pet but not a family with small children.

Affenpinscher Border Terrier Mix

The Affen Border Terrier as you can guess is a crossbreed between the Affenpinscher and Border Terrier. With a monkey-like face from the border terrier, the Affen Border Terrier is a strong-willed, active, and intelligent dog with a height of 10 to 14 inches and a weight of 13 to 20 inches.

As energetic and playful as they are, they need regular training and mental stimulation to prevent any behavioral issues.

These loyal companions have desirable traits such as a medium length wiry and coarse coat, medium-sized bones, wide eyes, upright or slightly flopped ears, muscular and compact paws, and sickle-shaped tails.

The sturdy dog also comes in a variety of coat colors including black, brown, tan with markings, and occasionally, mixtures of colors.

Affenpinscher Brussels Griffon Mix

The Affenpinscher and Brussels Griffon blend breeds the Affengriffon originating from Germany. They’re toy dogs with a small size weighing seven to 12 pounds and a height of seven to ten inches. Their miniature size allows them to fit well in a small-sized apartment, but not to mingle with young children who could injure them.

The hypoallergenic dog features large eyes, round heads, square-shaped and short body, short and straight legs, and short dense and wiry coat ranging from silver, white, black, brown, tan, or red.

The Affengriffon is a high maintenance dog with a constant need for grooming, clipping, and trimming of its coat. As for its personality, they’re very faintly and loving around pets but territorial and skimpy around strangers.

They love to spend quality time with their owners, contrary to which they get moody and develop undesirable traits like barking and biting. These confident fellows and great family pets that are sure to keep you company any time.

Affenpinscher Cocker Spaniel Mix

The Affen Spaniel is a crossbreed between two adorable companion dogs namely the Cocker Spaniel and the Affenpinscher. A small to medium size dog weighing an average of 15 to 25 pounds and a height of ten to 15 inches.

Classified as a herding and companion dog, the Affen Spaniel has much more to offer its adorable appearance. It’s a heavy barker that barks at any stranger.

With a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years, the Affen Spaniel features a short, medium dense coat throughout its body, curled on its head but silky in the stomach, legs, and behind their ears. Many color choices from black, light brown, golden, chocolate, peppery, and grey.

They have a round head, short muzzle, round eyes, flopped ears, and tapered tail with a thick base. This short and sturdy fellow is a very family bound pet that’s not easily rehomed. They are protective but gentle and well behaved.

Affenpinscher Japanese Chin Mix

The hybrid mix with a unique name, the Chin-Affenpinscher is a crossbreed between the Japanese Chin and the Affenpinscher. Both of which are companion dogs.

Originating from China and Germany, the hybrid also has a variance of characteristics besides being small and slightly inactive as other mixes. Its height stands at eight to 11 inches with an average height of five to ten pounds.

This toy-sized dog is uniquely characterized with abundant single coat silky hair. However, the density and color may vary with the breeding process. It has a round head with a black nose, dark and round eyes, and a short flattened muzzle, dropped ears, and an underbite.

The hybrid is very affectionate even with kids, very friendly around kids, less noisy and vocal therefore suitable for apartment living. The lapdog also boasts of early socialization but low to medium energy, hence, doesn’t require daily exercise.

Here’s yet another terrier mix between the Norwich Terrier and the Affenpinscher called the Affenwich. A designer dog with an approximate height of nine to 11 inches and a weight of seven to 10 pounds.

The ever yappy and stubborn Affenwich has a coarse, shaggy, and wiry coat with a range of colors from tan, black, red, wheaten, grey, grizzle, or a combination. More traits include a docked tail, pointy ears, brown and amber eyes, and a black nose.

The Affenwich is a very curious fellow that enjoys hunting, digging, and a lot of outdoor activities. This choice is ruled out for those of you who have small pets such as gerbils, guinea pigs, or rabbits.

They require proper training and attention otherwise the dog becomes a very relentless barker. However, this energetic hybrid is fearless and intelligent, a great watchdog that can double as a family pet. But watch out, they’re food aggressive!

Pmeranian and affenpinscher have a lot of similarities meaning the blend won’t disappoint you. The blend is playful, easy to train, genuinely loyal, Slightly vocal, soft and gentle, as well as loving.

Both of the maltese and the affenpinscher are small in size meaning apartment friendly. One of the most amazing feature of this hybrid is that it comes with little to no shedding. The mix is playful and affectionate.
